The
author`s foreword.
(or being homeless is to do with your soul, not your social status!)
"Who are we in this life?
- Pilgrims."
I was born in the 20th century, God knows where... finished school,
was persecuted, worked in various jobs and graduated from University
in passing. I have been all over the ex-Soviet Union since I was a child
and went on my very first trip (two weeks before being born) to Nahodka. That
is a port by the blue sea where the world ends not far from Vladivostock.
I saw neither of them but sensed them somehow. The experience was rather
curious, I should say! I have loved roads ever since...
My home was the whole of the Soviet Union. That is how it used to be.
It was my homeland which I explored while travelling. But in 1989 I
nearly became a dissident, about to open up a new wave of emigration
from Russia. Strange as it may seem, because of my political views on
the life of society. It was then that I started to explore this very
life closely...
In 1994 I made my way into Europe and I have felt at home there ever
since. Quite comfortable. France and Germany, England and Sweden, Czechia
and Slovakia, Kenya and Tanzania, Denmark and Egypt, Italy and Monaco,
Spain and Hungary, and also my eternal and neverending love - Norway.
By plane, by train, by car, by bike, on horseback, ski and on foot but
futher ahead, covering kilometers and discovering new worlds. I adore
going to those places where Russians have never set foot before... I
have been at the North Arctic circle, the Greenwich' meridian and the
Equator. Our world is beautiful!
... There
is nothing unrealisable in this world! I do believe it and know this
for sure. If your dream is not fulfilled it means you don`t really want
it or don`t try hard enough, which is absolutely essential. Besides,
you shouldn`t forget that the wilder your dream is, the higher the
price you will have to pay. Are you prepared to face it?..
When you have lived in one and the same place too long all the days
seem to form one endless line of weeks, months and years. Then you lose
the acute sense of living, you impressions are no longer vivid and the
colours fade. You begin to feel as if you watched a dull film without
an end. But what you need is wind and travel to make every day special
and a life full of such special days... Perhaps, this is why I am in
love with roads? It may be the reason why already now I can write books
about the thousands of kilometeres left behind me, meeting amazing people
and a great deal of adventures?... More energy and fascination ...in
this life that I love. And how happy I am to be able to meet extraordinary
people!
Being
on the road all the time leads one to think of the acquired experiences.
For instance, of home, the price of friendship and love, the usefulness
of wind etc. You can read this here. All those thoughts are taken from
my yet unfinished novel that is probably going
to be called "Hunting High and Low" as a tribute to
those who taught me to fly. And here you can
find my literary work that has already appeared in various publications.
From time to time I will renew the material so visit the site to have
a look at the new ones!
